In 50 words or less, what’s this film about?
A little boy wanders alone through a toy store. He can’t speak English, but he makes a memorable connection with a young mother over an uncomfortable truth.
What inspired you to make this film?
When I came from the Czech Republic to Germany in 1981, my parents and I didn't own anything else than an old suitcase. We applied for political asylum and I came to kindergarten without knowing a single German word. I still haven't forgotten this special feeling of not being understood and being able to communicate with anyone. Back in the days, I had to solely trust my instincts. And this specific feeling is part and parcel of my short film.

What’s your connection to Mississippi? (If you don’t have one, why did you apply to a Mississippi festival?)
I always wanted to go to Mississippi because of the great food and the music. Being part of your festival means a lot to me because I`ve read fantastic stuff about it. A great selection of independent films from all over the world and a great atmosphere are enough reasons for me :)
Anything else you want the audience to know about your film:
The refugee topic is now more relevant than ever and – of course – it deeply concerns me given my own past. However, far from a morality tale the true purpose of my movie is to bring this specific feeling to life and a bit closer to our privileged reality.
