Filmmaker's Name: Ryan Willard
Film Title: Quantum (Mississippi premiere)
In 50 words or less, what is your film about?
When a boy battling a brain tumor is ready to give up, his little sister helps him discover a message of hope.
What was your motivation to make this film… why this film, and why now?
Quantum was inspired by some of the saddest and most challenging moments of my life. I wanted to craft an 11 minute roller coaster that payed homage to anyone that has fought similar battles, and pass on two important lessons I learned along the way: Never give up on yourself or the people you love. And always listen to your sister.
Was there anything strange, funny, interesting, sad, scary, or otherwise unusual about making this film?
We filmed in the neighborhood I grew up in. My family moved away years ago but our favorite and last remaining neighbors let us use their house before they sold it. It was surreal, it felt like I traveled back in time and was doing the things I once dreamed of doing. Also... We shot Quantum on March 25, 2017, which makes it the most elaborate birthday party I've ever planned for myself.
What is your connection to Mississippi? If you don’t have one, why did you choose to enter your film into a Mississippi festival?
When I travel to lands I have yet to explore, I like to have a specific reason to do so. I've always wanted to visit Mississippi and Crossroads was the perfect opportunity.
Anything else you’d like the audience to know about your film?
I had the time of my life making this film and I'd be honored if you checked it out!
