As a killer is executed for murdering a young gay man, two sets of parents struggle to deal with the consequences of fear and repression.
What inspired you to make this film?
My first film was a documentary about an AIDS Hospice and I became very interested in the people there and what made them tick. When this script came along it spoke to the journey a family takes to accept and understand the consequences of their own fear and ignorance.  Also, I was attracted to the slow burn of the story.  It tells you nothing but you know everything.  A very challenging story on many levels.

What’s your connection to Mississippi?  (If you don’t have one, why did you apply to a Mississippi festival?)
I've taught several screenwriting seminars in Mississippi and have made many close friends along the way.  I've had some projects that almost happened in the state and I have vacationed there.  I've also heard that this festival is a special place to be with amazing hospitality.
Anything else you want the audience to know about your film:
Sure. When I first read this script, I was both confounded and mesmerized by the slow deliberate pace. It refused to give in and tell me what I was demanding to know. It broke the modern rules of screenwriting where you are incentivized as a writer to give the story up early and often. It was unrelenting. It fascinated me. By withholding so much, the payoff was amazing and ultimately totally satisfying. Against the judgment of many, we have held to that level of storytelling in the film. It is a challenging filmto watch. The slow burn goes against the norm but it packs a powerful punch. It's raw and it's real and you feel like you are an uninvited guest at a family's home on the worst night of their lives.
