Your Name: Catya Plate
Your Film Title: Meeting MacGuffin
In 50 words or less, what is your film about?
Repairing the world and humanity requires teamwork and imagination.
What was your motivation to make this film… why this film, and why now?
My main motivator is to make sense of our crazy world; "Meeting MacGuffin" talks about our contemporary world and its serious environmental issues in a playful, charming and non-preachy way.
Was there anything strange, funny, interesting, sad, scary, or otherwise unusual about making this film?
I injured my right arm and ended up with a frozen shoulder because of repetitive motion during production of my film. That was scary.
What is your connection to Mississippi? If you don’t have one, why did you choose to enter your film into a Mississippi festival?
I've screened my films at Crossroads FF before. I love this festival with its incredible hospitality and top notch programming.
Anything else you’d like the audience to know about your film?
"Meeting MacGuffin" is the second in a trilogy of shorts. I'm currently writing the script for "Las Nogas," the last in the trilogy. After "Las Nogas," I plan to make my first feature-length, stop-motion animated film! The trilogy will have left open many loose ends, intentionally, and the feature will fill the gaps and expand on the overall meaning and symbolism of this post-apocalyptic tale.
